Spouse/Guest Program Overview

“It is so hard to believe that we are celebrating our 20th year, thank you to all that have been on this journey with us.  Every year I think how I am going to come up with something new and fun that we haven’t done before, and of course I even surprise myself.  Our time together has allowed us to foster new friendships, catch up with old friends and to offer support to others in time of need. I hope you enjoy this year’s itinerary for the week end embracing the old and new Seattle.”   –  Karen Kois, Program Director

Thursday, July 19 - Seattle Untamed, Gold Rush National Park, Amazon Walking and Wine Tour

Hours: 9:00am -4:30pm

Meet: Grand Hyatt Seattle – Discovery Room, Lobby Level to load buses on 7th Ave outside of the hotel

Seattle Untamed

9:30am – 11:30am (bus)

This is about a 90-minute walk tour in historic Pioneer Square. On July 17, 1897, an event happened that would rocket the economically depressed city of Seattle with a gross income of 9 million dollars to an explosive 750 million dollars in just 8 months. The steamship Portland docked in Seattle from Alaska.  30,000 to 40,000 of the estimated 70,000 stampeders, who outfitted to go to the Klondike, bought their “ton of provisions” in Seattle. They were required to bring a year’s supply of food & equipment. This is history, it’s captivating, entertaining and sometimes a little naughty!

Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park

11:45am- 12:30pm(walk)

The Park preserves the story of the stampede to the Yukon gold fields and Seattle’s crucial role in this event.  The headlines of a Seattle newspaper on July 17, 1897, Gold! Gold! Gold! Ignited dreams of easy riches in the minds of thousands as a word of a rich gold strike in northwestern Canada. A dream that would proves all but dream.

LUNCH (bus)

To be determined

Amazon Walking and Wine Tour

2:00pm – 3:30pm/ tour
3:30pm – 4:30pm/wine and food pairing (bus)

Welcome to Amazon! This is tour of Seattle’s South Lake Union Neighborhood. It highlights the history, the lore & art of this modern city in the making. What was once a sleepy, industrial area has become Seattle’s most bustling neighborhood. Home to the world’s largest tech companies, state of the art construction, modern high rises, and the city’s highest concentration of food trucks, construction cranes and Amazon-dogs.

In addition to the meal, groups must name their restaurant, create a signature cocktail, design a table setting including a floral centerpiece, create menus for their establishment and create a paragraph describing the intended cliental and the ambiance.
