The Youth Program is a three-day program designed for the youth of those attending the Scientific Program. The days the Youth Program spans are packed with activities, in Seattle and the greater Seattle area and always result in our youth participants creating wonderful memories. This unique program provides enrolled kids with engaging and exciting activities, as well as with the opportunity to build meaningful and lasting relationships with other youth participants. The youth are supervised by Staff members, many of which started as youth participants years ago. In fact, many participants continue to come annually, and each year we are excited to welcome and add new participants to our Youth Program family! I look forward to seeing all of you for another unforgettable summer in Seattle!

The Youth Program check-in will be at the Grand Hyatt in the Discovery Room (Lobby Level).

Thursday, July 18th: Wild Waves!

Our first day kicks off with one of our all-time favorite spots – Wild Waves! 70 acres of fun, with more than 60 rides, roller coasters, water slides, wave pools, carnival games and a “Kid’s Kingdom,” that provides our youth with a busy and exciting afternoon. Wild Waves is always a hit, and after everyone sets up his or her towel on the hill and finds a friend and Staff member, the fun begins! We spend the entire afternoon trying to hit as many rides and slides as possible and take a quick break for lunch and dessert.

Please bring: Bathing suit, sandals, goggles, water wings (if required), hat/sunglasses, shorts and a change of clothes. Towels and sunscreen are provided.

Friday, July 19th: Flying Circus and Woodland Park Zoo!

Our second day will begin at Flying Circus, a trampoline and aerial park located in Tukwila, about 25 minutes south of Seattle. Here our youth will explore the 50,000 square foot facility with over 60 trampolines, including wall trampolines, launching decks and a few surprises up in the ceiling to challenge their vertical abilities!

After our participants have worked up an appetite flying, we will head back to Seattle to visit Woodland Park Zoo for an afternoon full of animals and education! Upon our arrival, our participants will take a break to enjoy lunch and snacks at the Rain Forest Food Pavilion before diving into a world of wildlife. With over 92 acres divided into bioclimatic zones, our youth program participants will have the chance to learn about different natural habitats such as the humid tropical rainforests, coastal deserts and temperate rainforests similar to those here in the Pacific Northwest. From Lions and Orangutans to Rhinos and Snow Leopards, Woodland Park Zoo features over 1,100 animals and 300 species for our program participants to explore and learn more about.

Please bring: Closed-toed shoes shoes, hat/sunglasses and a light jacket/sweatshirt. Sunscreen will be provided.

Saturday, July 20th: Cinema at AMC, Scrapbooking Craft and T-Shirt Designing

Our final day together will kick off with a film screening at the AMC Pacific Place 11, located only three blocks away from the Grand Hyatt.

We will then return to the Grand Hyatt to tap into our creative and artistic side with a scrapbooking craft, which participants will be able to take home with them as a way to remember all the friends they made and fun they had throughout the course of the program.

Our youth will also have the opportunity to participate in the annual t-shirt designing contest, where participants submit drawn designs that they hope to see featured on next year’s Youth Program shirts!

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is staffing the program, and how does it work if I have a young child participating?

The Youth Program has been carefully designed to ensure that all youth participants experience an incredible three days and are kept very safe.  Many of the Staff members are previous participants and are very familiar with some of the activities we do, as well as the areas we visit. Each Staff member is paired with a group so the Staff to Youth Participant ratio is approximately 1:5. Groups including younger participants are smaller, which allows Staff members to provide adequate attention to the younger children at all times.

Can kids be signed up for only specific days of the program as opposed to the entire program?

Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate partial participation in the Youth Program. Transportation and activities are planned around the total number of youth participants, and our Staff members are hired for three full days.

Can an adult sign up to accompany his or her youth on particular days?

We do allow and welcome adults, parents, and guardians to register on a day-by-day basis for the Youth Program if he or she is accompanying a youth member. Please contact Jen directly for adult registration.
